Statement // Declaración de artista
Angélica Teuta is an artist from Colombia and currently living in NY.
Her work is characterized by proposing a reflection about a series of notions such as time, spatiality and the standards of a learnt reality. Engaged with the idea that art has to be in junction with life, also thinking that the best way to connect art ideas is to observe our living situation in order to understand human nature and the social construction of needs.
Teuta does site-specific installations focusing on a space’s metaphorical ambience where people can experience and interact with projections. She uses sound, recycles objects and information and built objects based on pre photographic concepts. Her new research is called “emotional architecture” and she has started blending her surreal ambience with her new interests on interior design and architecture by designing spaces inside others, ambient rooms and wooden structures.
She has shown her large projects in United States, Canada, Norway, Costa Rica, Brazil and Colombia and published in Artforum and ArtNexus. She recently completed a residency at AZ West with Andrea Zittel.
Currently she is having a Master in Visual Arts at Columbia University in New York, supported by Banco de La Republica Scholarship and Colfuturo.

Angélica Teuta es una artista colombiana que actualmente vive en Nueva York.
Su trabajo se caracteriza por proponer una reflexión sobre una serie de nociones como el tiempo, la espacialidad y los estándares de una realidad aprendida. Comprometida con la idea que el arte tiene que estar en unión con el día a día, y además pensando que la mejor manera de conectar ideas en arte es observando nuestra situación de vida, con el fin de entender la naturaleza humana y la construcción social de la necesidades.
Teuta crea particularmente instalaciones que se enfocan en recrear ambientes metafóricos donde la gente puede experimentar e interactuar con proyecciones. Utiliza sonido, recicla objetos e información, crea objetos construidos a partir de conceptos prefotográficos. Su más reciente proyecto es llamado Arquitectura Emocional, y aquí ella empieza a mezclar su ambiente surrealista con sus nuevos intereses en diseño de interiores y arquitectura; diseñando así espacio dentro otros espacios, cuartos ambientados y estructuras en madera.
Ella ha mostrado sus proyectos de gran escala en Estados Unidos, Canada, Noruega, Costa Rica, Brasil y Colombia, y han sido publicados en Artforum y Artnexus. Recientemente completo una residencia en AZ West con Andrea Zittel y James Trainor
Actualmente se encuentra realizando una Maestría en Artes Visuales en Columbia University, New York, apoyada por la beca del Banco de la República de Colombia y Colfuturo.
